Sardonyx Chalcedony Shield Ring

Such a cool antique find! The light milky purple stone in the center of the ring is a Sardonyx which is a type of Chalcedony. Chalcedony is a mineral composed of microcrystalline quartz, while sardonyx is a variety of chalcedony that is banded with layers of sard, a reddish-brown mineral, and white chalcedony. This mixture of banding is what gives the stone a unique color. It is carved in a shield signet design with beautifully carved shoulders in 15 karat gold.
