This vintage English signet ring features the coat of arms of the Bassett Family. The engraving in latin reads “Pro rege et populo” which translates to “For King and people”. The motto was originally a war cry or slogan. Mottoes first began to be shown with arms in the 14th and 15th centuries, but were not in general use until the 17th century. The engraving also features a unicorn. This ring is made in 9 karat yellow gold, and has english hallmarks.
